Chicken roll, also known as kati, is a delicious meal that anyone can make with minimum effort. A single kati roll can fill your tummy. It is an easy meal you can try at home when you want to eat something heavy and tasty.
Chicken roll is the perfect lunch for a kid. If your kid asks for something delicious and interesting for lunch, you can make them a chicken roll.

You can prepare chicken roll from all the ingredients available in your kitchen. You don’t have to go grocery shopping to make kati roll.
- Chicken- 200 grams
- Vegetable Oil- 4 tablespoons
- Flour- 1cup
- Water- half cup
- Yogurt- 1 tablespoon
- Tomato ketchup- 1 teaspoon
- Lemon- half cut
- Onion- 1 medium size
- Tomatoes – 2 medium size
- Green chili- 1 medium size
- Coriander leaves – half teaspoon
- Cucumber- half medium-size
- Coriander powder- half teaspoon
- Cumin powder- half cumin teaspoon
- Black pepper powder- few pinches
- Turmeric powder- half teaspoon
- Garam masala- half teaspoon
- Ginger-garlic paste- one teaspoon
- Chili powder
Instruction For Preparing Chicken Roll
This section is divided into three halves. The first half discusses the step to marinate chicken, then the second half is about preparing a dough, and the third half explains the process of preparing chicken roll.
This step is very important. Usually, people don’t prefer to marinate chicken, but this step should not be missed. Marination allows the chicken to soak all the spices, which enhances the flavor of the chicken roll.
Rinse the chicken pieces under running water. You can use a colander or a big bowl to clean the chicken.
In a bowl of chicken pieces, add half teaspoon cumin powder, half teaspoon coriander powder, half teaspoon turmeric powder, one teaspoon ginger-garlic paste, one teaspoon yogurt, few pinches of black pepper, and salt according to the taste. If you like spicy food, you can also add chili powder.
Coat the chicken pieces with all the spices. You can either use hands or a spoon to coat the chicken pieces. It’s better you use hand so that you can coat each piece with spices evenly.
Cover the chicken bowl with a plate or lid and allow it to rest for 30 to 40 minutes. The longer you let the chicken to marinate, the taster it becomes. So don’t adjust marinating time.
While making dough for a chicken roll, it should be soft and should have a smooth texture. Hard and rough dough won’t make kati roll tasty.
In a bowl, add one cup of four, one teaspoon vegetable oil, and a pinch of salt.
Now gently pour water, then start kneading dough. Before kneading, you can grease your palm with vegetable oil to avoid flour sticking to your palm.
Don’t add water to make the dough soft. Instead, you need to keep kneading. To make dough soft, you will have to knead for 4 to 5 minutes.
When the dough is soft, make four equal balls out of it.
Cover it with the plate and allow them to rest for about 20 minutes
Preparing Chicken Rolls
After the chicken is marinated, you can prepare stuffing for chicken rolls. To prepare a chicken roll, you need to be prepared with all vegetables and chicken.
The first step to prepare a chicken roll is to chop vegetables which include tomatoes, onion, green chili, coriander leaves, and cucumber. When chopping, you need to chop them into fine pieces.
Heat the pan with 2 teaspoon vegetable oil on medium flame, then add chopped onion. Stir and fry the onion until they turn golden brown.
Then add chopped tomatoes and cook it for 3 minutes. Keep stirring it which cooking.
Now add marinated chicken pieces. Stir to coat the pieces with spices. Stir and cook for about 5 minutes. Then add half a teaspoon garam masala. After 5 minutes, turn to flame low, cover the pan with the lid and cook for another 10 minutes.
Add half a cup of water, then cook for another 5 minutes. Keep stirring in an interval. Once the chicken is cook turn off the flame and remove the pan from the stove.
Now you need to prepare the wrapper of kati roll with dough. Take a roller to flatten the dough in a circle. Don’t make the dough too thick or too thin. Make the dough about 1 inch thick.
Heat the tawa on medium flame. Then add few drops of vegetable oil to the tawa and spread it using a spatula.
Then put the wrapper to the tawa. Flip and cook for a minute. Similarly, cook the reaming wrappers for kati roll. Turn off the flame when all the wrappers are cooked.
Take a wrapper, then arrange the chicken in row above the center. Squeeze lemon over chicken pieces. Garnish it with coriander leaves and cucumber pieces. Then add tomato ketchup.
Roll the wrapper making a cylinder shape. Cut the kati roll in half.
The chicken roll is ready to be served.
